Just had a nice lie-in, after busy week at work. Already started to spot the neediest or most demanding students from the new intake. The other day, I saw this
Overdue strip, which sums up the library service ethos perfectly - Dewey is my professional role model (along with Andy Dufresne and Rupert Giles - mind you, Giles is a rubbish indexer).
This week I read
Two years before the mast, and loved it - Dana was a college student who decided to go to sea and signed on for a cruise as an ordinary sailor. The book's a really evocative and detailed picture of the realities of life at sea on a tall ship, and an expose of the harsh conditions for seamen in the 1830s. Also read
Truecrime, which was another good read - I liked the digs at celebrity gangsters and mockney film directors - easy to see who many characters were modelled on.
At the pub the other evening, we came up with a childishly amusing game, which I posted on the BookCrossing "chit chat" forum -
silly lunch songs.
