Surprisingly, the main library at Columbia University has a coffee bar inside. You're allowed to eat and drink in the adjoining lounge, though you are not allowed to bring your own food in from outside.

I've heard of US academic libraries which have deals with their local Starbuck's - students get university-branded thermos travel mugs, and a discount on coffee refills. That way they get to have coffee in the library, with less danger of spillage from cardboard or styrofoam cups etc.
