I went to Trafalgar Square in my lunch hour yesterday. They'd
turfed it over for two days, as a publicity drive for "London's villages". I wanted to see what it was like.
It was really good. The weather was sunny, which helped, and there was a great atmosphere - people had organised picnics with friends and colleagues, or just come on their own to sit with a book or walk on the grass. The fountains looked much nicer set in green lawns than their usual flagstones, although the grass nearest them was starting to get rather squelchy.
