Is anyone thinking of cloth diapering their kid when s/he arrives? I understand the pro's and con's at this point, but now I'm on to the acquisition questions.

If you are, or thinking about it...
  • Do you sew, know friends who sew, to have homemade ones? What about knit wool soakers?
  • Where are you thinking of purchasing them?
  • What kind do you think ( Read more... )

hi there! I'm thinking about clothdiapering. in fact , have you joined clothdiapering? its ery informative and it has quite a few articles describing the different diapers.

this sort of explains the diferences in them
    http://babyslime.livejournal.com/151952.html

and then if you are in the community
    http://community.livejournal.com/clothdiapering/941837.html
    is more in depth.

we were really leaning towards the "pocket" style diapers beacuse they have inserts that you can remove and so it makes drying them faster.

however, we have to put ObiSpawn in daycare, so I'm now leaning towards "all-in-ones" which are... just like huggies only cloth :)

then you have the prefolds, which are the little rectangles and you use covers on them.

I'm going to try my hand at making some pocket and AIO diapers in the next few weeks, I'm not a fantastic sewer but I think I could maybe do some AIO and pockets.

also, clothdiapering has alot of diapers used, for cheap, so I'm gonig ot start buying some of the girls' used stashes and ebay too. who needs new diapers?!

I get a TON of backlash for wanting to CD particularly from my parents. what about you?

I haven't mentioned it to my parents... I don't think it'll be a problem. I think after dropping the homeschooling bomb this will barely register. ;) My MIL cloth diapered back in the day so I know she'll be knowledgeable and supportive. :)

Thanks for the info, by the way. I'm not an experienced sewer either, but I'm willing to give it a shot! :)

Yeah, I think she'll come around once she sees the advances in CD'ing. ;)

With homeschooling it was a huge blowout. My mom freaked out crying, saying I was destroying my sons' lives. It's still a sore subject with her but I've learned that she had her turn and now it's mine.

I figure, like your mom will see with CD'ing, my mom will only be convinced by results. It may take years to actually get her to see it from my perspective.

Anywho... I'm excited I'm not the only one thinking of CD'ing as well!
