So, I find out that this is not a hoax: Scouts of America offer an award for Cub Scouts for playing video games. Not only is there a belt loop, theres an academics pin - to earn you have to complete difficult tasks such as teaching someone to play a video game, and play a video game with family/friends in a tournament style!

Seriously - wtf. from the Cub Scouts Website:
"Since its beginning, the Cub Scout program has been a fun and educational experience concerned with values. Besides providing a positive place where boys can enjoy safe, wholesome activities, Cub Scouting focuses on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service."

How do they see this fitting in here? The obesity professional in me is cringing big time. Im not saying video games cant be included as part of a healthy balanced lifestyle, Im saying their promotion and over use leads to the opposite....they certainly do not improve physical fitness, and do not at all foster any sense of community spirit or service. -1 for the cubscouts.
