I have had enough

I am selling the car. The cost of ownership in Bristol is just becoming too high. The rubbish roads cause high maintenance costs, petrol and car tax keeps going up and people who can’t park keep denting my body work. I have decided it is just not worth putting up with it any more. On top of all that, I have still yet to hear back from the DVLA on whether my eyesight condition would disqualify me from driving and I might move flat so that I can walk to work anyway.

Of course, being without wheels will lead to some problems. Shopping being one and getting about Bristol without using the dreadful bus service is another. The thought lurking at the back of my mind is to get a scooter. For those who know how fast and recklessly I cycle, this will terrify them. I promise to be good, honest! The only drawback with the scooter in my mind is security. People just keep trying to steal the damn things. It is an option worth exploring though.

The other problem of being car-less are those occasions when I want to drag my computers to lan parties. Assuming the DVLA let me drive, I could always hire a car, but experience shows that I end up paying money to have a hire car sitting on a drive for the whole time bar two days. I will just have to hope that maybe I can sweet talk and bribe some friends into giving me lifts… Dinner and petrol money anyone? ;)

car, future
