Weddings are never boring!

Sep 10, 2007 15:06

I am exhausted. So exhausted in fact, that I needed 14 hours sleep and thus called in sick at work. Bad me! As my boss knows I went to a wedding this weekend, he is bound to have his suspicions, but fortunately I can blame air travel. Well the plane did smell funny when I got on!

Well anyway, wedding no2 of the year was a success. Jersey was beautiful and sunny and it was one hell of a weekend. In order not to miss anything out, I am going to put it down in chronological order and it is likely to be a rather long post. Bugger off now if you are bored already!

Caught plane from Bristol International at 14:00 and arrived in Jersey by 14:45. By 15:30 I was at my hotel and wandering around the small Jersey town of Gorey. By 14:00 I was on the beach next to Gorey soaking up the first decent bit of sun this summer! It was proper sunbathing weather and apparantly the sea is about 20c at this time of the year. Back to hotel by 17:30 catching up with the people who have already arrived and then out for a meal with the couple nd all their friends. We went to an Italian resturant called La Cantina. I think they might have given us a discount because I spoke to them in Italian, the bill was surprisingly small considering 14 people ate and drank very merrily.

Back to hotel at 22:00 where most of the men parked up in the hotel bar and got down to some proper drinking and catching up. One of the guys (H) befriended one of the regulars in the pub and then things got very interesting indeed... H is gay and blantantly so, the regular he was chatting and smoking with (Dave) also turned out to be gay. Dave was probably stoned and definitely rather pissed. Thus easily confused and thus he sought clarififcation "Who here is gay?" he asked, to which the answer turned out to be, everyone except me! Which was rather amusing, as a friend (N) who I have known for 14 years, had not yet confessed this to me although I had my suspicions (see stag party 2 LJ post). When we all headed off to bed, I finally got the chance to speak to N in private (we were sharing a twin room) and I told him not to be silly as I certainly was not fussed about his sexuality. He then told me all about how and when he had realised. In short, it was a very educational night 'seeing' the other side. Went to bed at 02:30 and got up at 08:00 for the wedding.

I didn't really have to do much for the Saturday morning, so after breakfast I went to get some cash and for a walk. I then spent an hour or so soaking up some sunshine on the beach before heading off to the hotel to get ready. I managed to watch the first half of Italy being hammered by New Zealand in the rugby world cup before it was wedding time.

The wedding went really well and it was a very Catholic service. Presonally I thought the vicar was an arsehole as he was increadibly aloof, dictatorial and the wedding part of the service was about half an hour, the rest of the service seemed more like mass. However, the job was done and we all bussed off to White Rock which turned out to be a field in the middle of nowhere with a spectacular view, a huge marquee and a tethered and rather tame Jersey cow! I got to bed at 03:00, up again at 08:00 on the Sunday to pack and get back to the airport.

A rather fun and memorable weekend which co-incidentally had a wedding in it! Now to get back to the daily grind and sort out the odd 101 things that need doing.

friends, wedding
