I can see why the women like this film. They should call it 300 bulging six packs (no doubt a porn movie soon will!), the men are left with just one attractive queen to drool over. Having said that, it was still an enjoyable film. Lots of pretty slow motion fight sequences (not for the squeamish). I also thought they reflected the megalomania of the Spartans rather well.
This did raise up the interesting issue of giving up your life in defence of your country despite the political support being somewhat less than adequate. Talk about true dedication to the cause and a concept that has rather fallen out of favour in the developed nations in recent years (possibly a good thing?). You could almost view this as an old style subtle propaganda, motivate the soldiers sort of film with a nice bit of speculative history thrown in. Considering the Spartans killed all the wounded after the battles, perhaps not a good message for soldiers!
In summary an enjoyable film to watch with a little bit of Hollywood cheesiness.
