AND I HAVE ALL THE EMOTIONS OMG.
Random, disjointed thoughts:
Holy shit that was an emotional ride. The Matthew/Mary aside, I think my favourite part of the episode was Robert's acceptance of Mary's past. The fact that her Dad rose above the social mores of his time, TOLD HER TO GO TO AMERICA AND BRING HOME A COWBOY AND THEN GAVE HER A HUG. That was just. Gah. That was just... omg. Father/daughter relationships and Dad-hugs always slay me, because is there anything in the world more secure and comforting in the world than a Dad-hug? I felt Mary's relief so powerfully in that scene, because I do wonder if there are things I might one day have to tell my father about myself, and wonder how he will react to them.
Also, yay for Daisy standing up for herself, and Mrs Patmore listening to her.
I'm glad Matthew/Mary got resolved, and I'm glad Bates isn't going to die, but omg the thought of Mary and Anna travelling to New York together was awesome for a moment there.
I thought Sir Richard was kind of awesome, in the end. Sure, he was controlling, and a royal douchebag a lot of the time, but I actually felt for him in the end, because he really was doing everything he thought he should for Mary (in his own style, which is basically to throw money at any obstacle that comes up), but nothing he did could actually make Mary love him. I think he was a fantastic antagonist (and I love Iain Glen), and I was kind of sad to see him go, in the end. I wonder if he will sell Mary's story, or not.
MRS HUGHES GIVING ANNA A HUG OMG MY HEART.
Thomas, oh, Thomas. You are such a Slytherin and I love you. The look on your face when you thought you'd lost the dog for real.
(But what the hell is happening between you and O'Brien? You're supposed to be besties but you barely said anything to each other in this episode and what you did say was cool at best. I WANT YOU TO GO BACK TO BEING AWESOME AND PLOTTY TOGETHER PLEASE. I know O'Brien is dealing with a bunch of existential guilt and trying to be a better person and whatever, and you're not quite there yet, but you need to stop fighting and start learning to be slighty better people together, okay? NO MORE FIGHTING).
Violet for all the awards. As Always. Though Isobel is definitely giving you a run for your money this episode.
Also, yay Rosamund! I'm so glad you featured heavily in this episode, because I think you are awesome. And you looked hot in that dress you were wearing at the servants ball, can I just say. When you have to shoot down a cad because he's sleeping with your maid, it's best to do it looking fabulous.
Anna, I do love your relationship with Bates and I think it is great, but I hope you will listen to him and go live life and I hope your characterisation next season will not revolve entirely around him.
Of course, Sybil is pregnant. I'm kind of happy for her, but at the same time, well, I guess you're not going to have a career and everything now, and I hope you are as content with the life you've chosen as you thought you would be.
LOL Lavinia and the ouija board. What even.
To sum up:
