As the sun was setting in the distance, rain fell down on the endless field, which was completely empty save for Kohane. She merely stood there, staring up at the sky. If she was aware of how wet her hair and dress were becoming, she didn't show it.
The rain continued to beat down on her, streaking her face with what almost looked like tears, but weren't. By now, she was completely soaked, and would likely catch a cold if she stayed in the rain any longer. Again, if she noticed this, she paid it no heed.
Just then, the rain above her stopped, even though drops still fell around her. Slowly, as if she'd been aware of his presence all along, she turned around. By her side was a
teenage boy, nearly as wet as her. Even so, he smiled, as he held his umbrella over her head.
"Kimihiro-kun," Kohane said. Kimihiro tilted his head to the side.
"I told you: You shouldn't stand in the rain like that," he replied, though not in a reprimanding tone.
Kohane smiled softly, before looking away. "... I miss you."
Still smiling, even if his smile had a sadder touch now, Kimihiro said, "So do I. But it doesn't matter how far apart we are."
Since Kohane's expression (or lack thereof) was the only reply he received, he continued. "Kohane-chan will always be a special person to me."
It was such an unoriginal thing to say, and had this been anyone other than Kohane, she would've scoffed. But for Kohane, who'd been alone for years before Kimihiro came along, it warmed her heart. She looked at him in surprise, and, for a few seconds, didn't know what to say. It shouldn't have been so difficult to speak--it wasn't as if he'd never admitted caring for her before. Yet it was. She didn't know if she'd ever get used to feeling like this, and being told these things.
Instead of giving him a proper response, she let her face say it all and smiled. It wasn't a small one, like the one she gave previously. This time, her entire face lit up, and it was clear as to how happy she was at that moment.
"... And Kimihiro-kun will always be a special person to me."
His own smile growing brighter, the boy answered. "I'm glad."
As their surroundings changed into that of Espoir's plaza, he burst into light, and then faded away.

[Kohane opens her eyes, looking a bit homesick as she does.]
Kimihiro-kun...
