On their way...

As soon as they return to the universe they've been frequenting, Arashi takes to the air to check some details against the maps he'd been looking over during lunch. Waltzes, like Mages, have poor visual acuity when it comes to documents, but can focus easier on moving things - like terrain below when flying ( Read more... )

Mistral blinks at the sudden absence of young dragonet on this side of the door.

The next room looks to be a sleeping area. The walls are chiseled from the stone instead of natural cave walls like the previous 'storage-pantry-garbage' room. The ceiling is 10 ft high. In an alcove to the south hang four empty hammocks. In the middle of the room stands a round table, and just south of the door on the east wall is a full-length mirror. On the table are four bowls filled with stew. There's another wooden door across the room, and it too is locked - but the hobgoblins are right on the other side of it.

The hobgoblins that live in this warren never expected to defend it from attacks coming from in the back room. But they've had a little while to prepare...

((There's a rug one adult step away from the doorway. It has a switch hidden under it. Putting weight on the switch will trigger a huge block of stone to fall from the ceiling. Sort of like the 'bucket of water over the door' gag, only more dangerous.

They've also poisoned the bowls of stew, but anyone stupid enough to eat stew made by hobgoblins has more to worry about than poison... It's not even a very good poison - the booklet says 1d4 damage from stomach cramps, so maybe it's just their cooking! O.o ))

Silver looks around, and then looks up before her face creases with concentration and her pretty stone appears in her hand. This is tossed toward the thing that the walls and door are telling her are hidden under the rug. She's not sure if her stone is big enough to make the thing move, and now she's very tired from the double teleport. But she really wants to protect her new friends.

((I hear gobs like cooking with poison mushrooms and such like.))

There's a scraping sound from above as the block slides free and comes down to crash in front of the second door.

A room beyond, the hobgoblins hear the noise and ready their weapons.

A room behind, and Mistral and Rydia are starting to worry about Silver.

((Would not be a surprise. XD ))

She winces at the crash, then sends out an emotional happy bomb and turns to look at the door to see if she can reach the handle and work the lock.

The lock's very simple from this side. And low to the ground - some goblins tend to be pretty short.

Aaaand, the door is soon swinging open as two big blue eyes peek around it tiredly. Silver's hair is mussed every which way, and she picked up a dirty face somehow.

The only reason Mistral doesn't scoop her up for a cuddle is that Mages rend to be physically weak critters. He does hug her, though. While his siblings try to get past them through the doorway.

Silver smiles a bit and hugs back, then moves out of the way and plunks down on her butt on the floor. "The goblins are waiting."

"Well, then," says Blaze, "it would be rude to make them wait too long."

"I'll take care of this door," Rydia says, and begins summoning something. The room fills with a low ground fog, which moves under the door. Shortly afterward there are some panicked shouts from the hobgoblins on the other side, but it's hard to hear anything intelligible. The door swings open and the mist starts to vanish - but just before it does one might be able to see it had formed into a shape roughly like the upper half of a dragon made out of mist.

Mistral will hang back a bit to tend to Silver and keep an eye on her. His two more temperamental siblings are eager to get through the door, though. Sounds of fire and lightning can soon be heard from the next room, as well as panicking hobgoblins that have found themselves outmatched in the face of Waltz magic.

The little dragon winces and puts her hands over her ears as though to block out the fear and pain from the hobs, then leans her head wearily against Mistral and closes her eyes. Within moments her breathing evens out and she goes limp.

Mistral just cuddles the little dragon, and stays out of the fight this time.

Not that it lasts long. The sounds from the next room are soon over - though in this case the singed hobgoblins managed to flee in sheer terror out of the front entrance to their warren and off down the mountainside. The other two Waltzes have flown off in pursuit for a while.

Rydia comes back to check on Mistral and Silver.
