I ran into two lizards today on Captain Planet--big ones. They attacked in a pair and they were really tough to kill--about twenty feet long from nose to tail, and they had some kind of crystalline-looking spines all down their backs.

[It takes him a little while to find the bridge Cara spoke of, because of how much everything has shifted around on this level. He locates it at last, and Cara herself, sitting nearby, and hurries over.]

[She smiles and waves at River.]

Yeah, the new map is still throwing me off too.

Um... I'm kind of harmed. The lizard bit my leg pretty hard--I healed it mostly, but I walked a long way and I just need someone else's shoulder for this bridge.

[She manages to stand up slowly. There's a rather bloody bite mark on her right leg, but it's not actively bleeding.]

[When he gets near her he realizes he can sense the injury--or maybe it's just that he smells the blood? He isn't sure. He glances down at the bite wound on her leg, then stops and focuses on it with an intense gaze. It had a sense of wrongness about it, like a tangled knot, something he feels almost as though he could right, if he could simply tug the threads straight again. Like he did in his dream.]

Cara? May I try to heal it?

Okay--that might be a good idea.

[She sits down again carefully, her hurt leg out in front of her. She's not worried; he's a dragon, so even if he hasn't practiced in a while it won't be bad.

Also, despite his being a dragon his human form is small enough that he probably won't try to actually carry her. Now that she isn't feeling horribly lonely anymore, pride is more important.]

[River sinks down to one knee, gazing at the wound on her leg. He does know how to do this--he feels more sure of it with each passing moment. Something as small as this is simple...a matter of commanding rightness, wholeness. Words rise in his mind and he speaks them in a hissing breath.]

By the wind and the water within thee...

[He passes his hand through the air above her leg, sensing the wound come together.]

[She watches as he kneels down and remembers the spell--the words of it aren't familiar to Cara, but the effect of the magic is unmistakable. The lingering pain from where her own healing chakra stopped vanishes, as though it's been washed away, and she turns her leg a couple of times without any more problems.]

Wow... thanks, River! That's some kind of healing spell.

[She smiles and gets to her feet.]

Hey, you don't need to thank me. But... I'm glad you remembered. It's always nice to be able to remember part of yourself.

[She looks out across the bridge, which is a lot less intimidating now.]

I should probably go to Medical Island anyway, just to get it on paper that it's healed... and get cleaned up, too. It feels good as new, though.
