OK, For Burly, I Present THE LIT REVIEW PROJECT!!!
1. Introduction (5 marks)
The review begins with a general statement that tells the reader that five peer reviewws articles were examined, but one was chosen and why you chose that over the other four
Identify the article by stating the title and the author
Define or identify the general topic, issue or area of concern, thus providing an appropriate context for the review of the literature
2 the body (25 marks)
The review must be in your own words
The writers credentials
The writer's reason or point of view for the article you are reviewing-what brought the researcher to his or her particular topic?
A summary of what source had to say about the topic-what was the hypothesis, what was the conclusion-what was the author trying to argue?
A summary of what social theories were used-ie what theory or theories did the author base his or her research on? IF THERE ARE NO THEORIES YOU SHOULD PICK A NEW ARTICLE TO REVIEW
A summary of what method was used to gather information and analyze the data-how did the researcher carry out his or her analysis?
3. The Conclusion (5 marks)
Summarize the results of this article and include
1. Whether the author's arguments were supported by evidence and
2. How the article has contributed to the area of research
Assess whether or not the research was useful to you-and why or why not. It is NOT sufficient to simply say that you found it was useful because it fit your hypothesis. You must say WHY and HOW it was useful or WHY and HOW it wasn't
Include your hypothesis at the end of your conclusion
The hypothesis need only be one sentence but it must include a dependent and independent variable, one which was reviewed in the article you chose
If need be, refer to chapter four in your textbook for details about both the variables and the hypothesis
4. Bibliography (5 marks)
The bibliography must be in APA format. Use the bibliographical reference book to ensure it is completed correctly
Also, she didn't write specificaly that all 5 articles had to be in the bib. but i do recall her SAYING all five did...so i think you should.
Also also...when she refers to social theories....i'm thinking she's talking about conflict thoery, symbollic interactionism, andfunctionalism...am i wrong or right here? any feedback would be appreciated!
