Dying languages

So i am in Portland for this ANA grant writing pre application training, and i cannot help but think that the government just likes to shove and push money where ever, regardless of the urgency.  I am sure that this program has done some great things over the years, helped some programs get going to help their communities.  But, then again, if groups are in dire need of help, it seems that the ANA has everyone go over their checkpoints and loops.  If languages are so endangered that funds need to be allocated towards an immersion school or advanced program etc, they would have to (most likely) go through all the initial steps before this group would be funded for these schools or programs.

This kind of shit pisses me off.   i mean honestly, what the fuck.   How are languages that are very endangered with just a few years to survive go through years of initial start up programs in order for a sufficient language revitalization?   Those few years are critical to teach, and train new fluent speakers as well as introducing the community to language, not to dick around with the goddamn hoopla that the feds want.  ugh. i guess i shouldnt really be here if i have these beefs, but there is a need for resources, its  just a bit frustrating.

another issue is that a bunch of fucking linguist are the ones reading these grant applications and im sorry, dont know shit about what it means to save a dying language.  yes they can study the origins and specifics of families of languages, but cannot look at revitalization as objectives of tribes.  there is a limitation of what these people can understand, especially the tones of communities on just a written document.

i am learning that its not the money that i want to work for more and more.  because if i do....ill just end up like these assholes.
