Okay, so guys, I was in a bad place at the end of last week - depressed, stressed out, sad - and I found myself backsliding, looking for comfort. The kind of warm, nurturing relationship I remember so desperately craving when I was a child, but never got. Okay, that's a lie - I had a warm, nurturing childhood. What I didn't have was cable TV for ( Read more... )

I adored North and South. And I felt the ending was far more endearing then P&P. It tugged on the heart strings that little bit harder. Plus, Darcy was a pussy-cat in comparison.
All hail the BBC mini-series.

All hail, indeed!

I agree about the N&S ending - I read somewhere that some people in the UK were upset because it wasn't true to the time period, but I have to say, historical accuracy is the furthest thing from my mind when I watch that scene. I love the BBC version of P&P, but the ending is kind of lacking - it peaks at Pemberley and then nothing really reaches that height again for the rest of the series, to me. For N&S, that moment on the train platform is absolute magic, and then the movie ends just a minute or two later - much more effective.

Don't feel bad, hon. I'm going to be 42 next week and absolutely loved watching High School Musical. I thought it was cute and quirky.
Having a 2 year old requires that we have full access to Disney. I mean...we have the schedule pretty much down pat when Sarah is home sick during the week and Disney is a must from the time she gets up on a Saturday until Lilo and Stitch come on...then it's Mommy and Daddy's turn on the television. :) We know all the theme songs for each show and their sung at the tops of our lungs during any part of the day...anywhere we are. We've even been known to belt out the theme song for The Little Einsteins in the middle of Walmart. I think Sarah's first crush has got to be Johnny Tartaglia of Johnny and the Sprites. Shhh...don't tell her daddy that since he's supposed to be Sarah's first and only crush. :D

I have to say, one of my favorite parts of my summer baby-sitting jobs when I was in college was my exposure to kids' TV (Sesame Street was my favorite).

I'm so glad someone else enjoyed High School Musical! Wasn't it cute? I thought the two leads did such a good job seeming like they were absolutely smitten with each other. So adorable!

The leads were cute. Their awkwardness around each other seemed genuine and brought back some pleasant memories of the distant past. :)
Thought the drama teacher was way over the top and she definitely reminded me of my chemistry teacher...in so many wrong ways. Ha! ::rolls eyes:: I hadn't thought about Irene Chestnut in a long, long time.

I just got done watching North & South, and I loved it! All those scenes in the factory with the cotton floating around like snow, and the crazy plot with her brother, and, well, everything! I've taped the first night of Bleak House but haven't watched it yet, but I love the novel so I'm wildly looking forward to it.

Oh, YAY, another North & South lover! Wasn't it just beautifully filmed? I loved the scenes in the cotton factory, and then the later scenes with the snow in the streets of Milton were so beautiful. I loved the music, too.

The crazy plot with her brother! When she and John meet in the foyer after the Big Misunderstanding, and she's all, "I had a good reason! Really, I did!" and he SO DESPERATELY wants her to tell him, but she CAN'T, and then he's all WHATEVER and it's SO DRAMATIC I loved it. Fred and his mutiny. Always causing trouble!

I really, really enjoyed Bleak House. Am dying for the next installment, in fact! You're at an advantage because you already know how everything turns out - I'm all stressed about Esther, who, by the way, is played by the actress who played Bessy Higgins in North and South! I think she's doing a really good job so far.

Okay, skipping Bleak House spoilers as it is still on my Tivo waiting for viewing. Of course, I've read the novel, so I don't know why I'm so paranoid about "spoilers."

However! Do not be ashamed of High School Musical! I did not watch it myself, but my co-teacher did with her daughter, and she really liked it. Also, I watched "Madagascar" this weekend, and I can't even say it was just for research purposes (it's very popular with the three year old set these days). It's because I wanted to watch it. (I didn't think it was anything special, really. I was disappointed.)

I remember when Disney was a pay channel, too. Wow. Those were the days.

I'll see your "'Madagascar' this weekend" and raise you "saw it in the theatre with another adult and no children accompanying us."

I'm sad that Madagascar wasn't good, because I wanted to see it! I had high hopes. I like cartoons, even the old-school traditionally animated ones - like Anastasia! And Mulan! Those are two of my personal faves.

And you should totally watch Bleak House! And then we can talk about it!

I actually really liked Madagascar. It wasn't amazing or anything but it had some parts that I actually laughed out loud at, which is often not the case for me with the movies touted as "for kids AND adults!!!" I didn't think Shrek was nearly as funny as it was supposed to be, though, so take that fwiw.

Emperor's New Groove = funniest

True confession: I know you're a kindred spirit when it comes to these things, and I was really stressing out because I hadn't seen you post about High School Musical the way you usually post about things you've enjoyed (always appreciate those posts, and often get book recommendations from them). I was all worried that you hadn't liked it! That I was alone in finding it adorable! I feel much better knowing you just haven't seen it yet. :)
