This last week of work has been interesting. I had a lot of really good days, finally.
One night I had a guy come in wanting plain caramel apples, but the plain ones were gone. So he waited like half an hour while I warmed up the caramel and prepped everything...on top of doing my regular work. Who waits that long for candy apples? Though, he did end up buying twelve...so...yay me!?
On nights when there's only one person working the bakery we have to cover it when they go on break. It's not hard, mostly involves helping old ladies who seem unable to find prices on ANYthing and giving the free cookies to little kids. But, the other night a group of high school (I assumed) boys came up and were looking at the pre-made cakes. They picked one up and brought it to the counter and asked me if I could write "Happy Birthday Fuckface". For those wondering, the answer is yes.
Though, the real winner was last night. As I was washing dishes, excited about getting off soon, I sliced the end of my thumb open on a knife. It didn't hurt but it bled like a stuck pig (haha I love that phrase). I'm glad it didn't happen while I was prepping food. So I went to the cabinet where our first aide kit is, trying not to bleed everywhere. Unfortunately our cabinets are high and I am short. So I'm stretching up to one of the higher shelves, but apparently a bracket or two were missing, so it was loose and I knocked it down, contents and all, onto my head.
Let me tell you, that was fun...and to top it off I still had like twenty minutes worth of dished to do. So I ended up wrapping the thumb, band-aide and all, in saran-wrap while I washed. Good times.
Last night I came home to the cutest site. I got home late and peeked into the living room to see if Livy was still awake.
Instead, my dad was stretched out on one side of the couch, passed out, my nieces were cuddled up together on the other side asleep, and my mom was out on the love seat. And of course Spongebob was on the tv. So, I turned the light out and let them be.
Today we turned the dough I made yesterday into frosted halloween cookies. :) They were very good assistants. Noelle was actually more fond of using the cookie cutters than anything. I had to stop her many times from just chopping all the dough up into unrecognizable shapes. It was fun. And the cookies are surprisingly good.
So I may be inept at cooking, at least I have modicum skill at baking.
