Ramblings #1

The world would be better off if we could achieve the following Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015, as set by the UN:

Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Unfortunately, achieving these goals is very difficult--and that's not even consider economic costs.

I've studied achieving universal primary education (MDG #2) in Angola. What I've learned is that as a change agent, I cannot simply come in with a solution and impose it. People have a way of doing things, and depending on the culture, they will not accept innovation unless it's compatible.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, being a change agent is hard. Bringing forth change on a wide scale requires a humble ego and resolute will.
