Character Discussion
The other day we discussed things we loved or hated about Gajeel (feel free to go back and add to that!).
Now let's take some time to talk about Juvia!
Mild-mannered, soft spoken Juvia ... will she ever find her voice?
Juvia is an interesting character for me.
Speaking strictly about magic, her abilities are rather unique. Do we know any other wizards with the ability to become the element they work with the way she does? Natsu can create and engulf himself in flame, Gajeel can harden his body into iron, Gray can sculpt ice into any shape ... but Natsu still has a breakable body, Gajeel's blood flows freely beneath those iron scales, and Gray is still 100% flesh. The way she can withstand attacks is amazing.
She's also a pretty powerful wizard, being one of the top in her previous guild as one of the Element 4. Within months of joining Fairy Tail, she is nominated to undergo the S-Class examination over other members who have been members much, much longer.
Juvia as a person is also in interesting. She grew up being teased and left out, which only added to the overcast gloom she lived and breathed. Even though she has said she had never felt accepted before joining Phantom Lord, she'd never felt as happy or had the rain stop until she decided to join Fairy Tail. It makes me sad that she felt so alone for so long, but it's definitely nice to see her demeanor improve as she folds into life at the guild. She also played a large part in Gajeel's acceptance into Fairy Tail. I wonder what their relationship was like before (were they simply guild members? Did they ever work together? I can see Gajeel overlooking her gloom easily in order to work with her, which she would probably remember and be fond of).

And of course, no discussion of Juvia would be complete without mentioning Gray! I dare-say I sympathize with her on this, haha. He is definitely good-looking, fun-loving and cool! Will she ever catch his eye? And is Gray the only member of Fairy Tail who doesn't know she's obsessed with him? It sort of seems that way most of the time. For those familiar with Harry Potter, their dynamic reminds me a bit of Harry and Ginny in that Harry never took notice of Ginny in the beginning because she was so flustered that she never spoke around him. It wasn't until she let go of her obsession and acted normally that he really began to see her and be interested in her (and look! Juvia's proclamation to Gray at the start of the contest is a huge step for her in this regard!).
Also, I found their Edolas counterparts interesting in that Edolas-Juvia knew Edolas-Gray pined endlessly for her (and she regularly and blatantly shrugged him off). Does that bear any meaning on Juvia's future with Gray in Fiore?
