Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

8. Tokka and Rahzar

v

I’m sorry, but the scene in Secret of the Ooze where Shredder is all like “Yes, yes! My master plan! I will defeat mutants with even BETTER mutants!” and these two creepy looking guys step out and just as he’s about to go into evil laugher mode, they go “MOMMY!” and start trying to cuddle him, is priceless.

7. Krang

Him and Shredder are *such* a married couple.

6. All the Freaking Action Figures

We had a lot of them. But the variations are just great, including: Star Trek TMNT. I MEAN SERIOUSLY. We never owned these ones, though I want them desperately now, but we did have many others, including sports, cavemen, and monsters. For starters.

5. Splinter

Giant talking rat for the win. Also, the poor guy, he has to raise four teenage sons who happen to also be giant talking turtles.

4. The Disguises

Wait, seriously, these *worked*?

3. The Fact They Actually Acted Like Teenagers

This is especially in the first three live action movies (which is what I own and thus get to see the most). They run around and do crazy shit, they goof off, they drive Splinter crazy, and have sulking fits. They argue like siblings actually argue. It seems a lot of times in shows and movies, especially fantasy ones, the teenage characters are forced to be mature by destiny or whatever, and don’t have time for bitch fests with their siblings (who are usually dead anyway). But Turtles doesn’t do that. Yeah, there’s fighting and life and death and stuff, but there’s also pizza and Raphael and Leonardo bitching it out. There’s puns and jokes about crushes and junk food.

2. The Fact They’re Named for Famous Renaissance Artists

This just makes my little nerd heart happy.

1. My Childhood

We have a video of the day my parents brought me home from the hospital. I was maybe 24 hours old. My two year old brother is running around in a TMNT shirt, screaming Pizza! and Turtle Power! This was perhaps my first exposure to nerdom, as I don’t think my dad made any Star Wars jokes in the hospital. Well, that was the first day…
