Eight Things I Love About Eight Series

8. Zoe and Wash

I really love married couples in shows. Especially after reading an interview where Whedon mentioned how he actually had to fight with Fox over including a wedded couple in the show. Showing their ups and downs in marriage, even over just a scant 14 episodes seems quite an achievement (Serenity didn’t have time for this though, or much emotion of any kind except shock and fear). And I would like to also add how much I love their characters. Especially Zoe.

7. Simon and his Big Brother-ness

I adore Simon anyway. The fact he’s such an awesome older brother too… I wish my older brother was this nice. (Okay, he kinda is, he just isn’t good at showing it. But he gets really protective if something actually happens).

6. Serenity

I love Galactica from BSG. It’s an awesome ship. But there’s something about the design of Serenity that I just find gorgeous, and how it’s looks insect like, and all the little details all over it, from the way the colors change depending on the room (Blue for the infirmary and Simon, to yellow for the kitchen and dining room, where they would gather as a family) to the lights and paintings Kaylee did. And the effect in hard burn, where you see why this ship was called the Firefly class.

5. The Theme Song

I hated it when I first heard it. Until I realized a day or two later I kept singing it. It’s grown on me a lot since then to say the least, and I am tempted to sing along to it every time I watch an episode.

4. Jayne’s Statue

“Everywhere I go… his eyes seem to follow me.”

3. Jayne’s Hat

“A man who wears this hat isn’t afraid of anything.”

2. Jayne Cobb

It’s odd how I find so much love for such arrogant characters (Prussia, Jack Harkness, Jayne Cobb, and Guy Gardner would get along very well, and are all some of my favorite characters). Jayne was my least favorite for a while. He comes across very easily as just a big idiot with a gun. But then you have things like the crazy hat his mom knit for him, and episodes like Jaynestown, or how in the pilot though he never said it, the viewer could see him watching Kaylee and hoping she would be okay. He might not be graceful, or tactful, and yet somehow he reminds me of a puppy, who cares so much but knocks over everything anyway.

1. River Tam

Her craziness, her vulnerability, her ability to totally kick your ass, her sense of humor, her telepathy, her fashion sense, her normalness, and her love and care for those around her.
