Tracking Your Author's Inspiration Episode 27

So, somehow I ended up rewatching clips of Van Helsing and it got my thinking.

The scene where Dracula dresses up all fancy to dance with the heroine of the story is the only scene of the film that's really stuck with me ((well, and Dracula's ponytail but that's a thing not a scene)) and it made me start listing off how many scenes like that one I' ( Read more... )

Heh. Very true. My melodramatic, Breaking-Benjamin-fan side wants to call it "Dance with the Devil." :P

And don't forget the Chuck example, which was...when I fell in love with that show's conception of gender roles. Chuck: "Apparently I learned the girl's part of this dance. Would you mind leading?" The female antagonist [no hesitation] "Not at all." And they work it.

Well, I would say the song is certainly a good example of this ... XD Love the song too but it sounds a bit more limiting since the dance isn't always with the villain/devil, just sometimes with someone you disagree with?

Oooooh. I have not seen that bit and now I really want to.

True, but it's such a lovely title...:P

Really? You haven't seen it? The tango parts are all up on youtube. From the Chuck/Awesome dance (which is so beyond fabulous, but I do get disturbed by Ellie's reaction...girl, that's your BROTHER, don't look so titillated. It's all part of my theory that everyone in the Chuck 'verse wants to get in Chuck's pants. EVERYONE) to the great Chuck and villain dance, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_QeAsZ84n0.

It really is but...

I've watched really scattered Chuck. I don't know, I think Ellie's reaction would be more watching her boyfriend/fiancee but that was... interesting.

Heeeeeh. Okay, that was pretty amazing. When I learned the Tango I actually learned all the lead's steps. I like being a lead in Tango, I really do. >.>

I hope so. But when he looks scandalized she gives him these excited looks to tell him to keep going. (Why wouldn't she ask her boyfriend to teach her?) If you watch enough Chuck, you might get on board with my theory. The show makes minimal sense to begin with, but it REALLY doesn't make sense unless every character who practically has a line is in varying degrees of love/lust with Chuck. (Bryce is the most noticeable, because the premise wouldn't exist without him acting like he has a crush on Chuck. Jill, the ex-girlfriend? Morgan, good lord. Every single villain, male or female? LOL.)

...I finally had to quit at the beginning of the third season because even that theory wasn't enough for the show to make sense anymore...

Ah yeah. See, as I said, I watched pretty scattered amounts of it. But, Timothy Dalton is the villain of I think season four so that makes me want to watch that bit. XD
