Eight Lovely Things About Batman

Batman

8. Batman in the Eighties

And NOT Frank Miller. Never Frank Miller’s version of Batman. But there were some great story arcs from the 80s, and I especially enjoyed his time on the Justice League (International). This isn’t the team with Wonder Woman or Superman, who were both running around doing something else at this point, but Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner, Ice, Fire, Martin Manhunter, Black Canary, and Captain Marvel, among others.

7. Guy Gardner

Sorry, he’s not actually a Batman character. But his interactions with Batman? Priceless. And I just love him so much anyway. He’s such a jackass of a woobie.

6. His Little Displayed Sense of Humor

Seriously, this pops out of freaking nowhere once and a while. (In one comic, his team members where a little… traumatized by this. Including “Does anyone else find this sudden emergence of a sense of humor deeply disturbing?”  and the exchange, “Was that a joke?” “From a brooding obsessive creature of the night? Don’t be absurd.”)

5. This Picture

I’m not sure if this series ever took off the ground, and this is just concept art, but JUST LOOK AT IT. In some ways it sums up the main JLA perfectly, as well as being so goddamn adorable.

4. The Animated Series

Including Batman Beyond and the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons, which had the same creative teams and often the same voice actors. “You’re a stand up guy Bats. Don’t ever let them call you a crazed loner.”

3. The Joker

I really don’t have much to say here. He’s the Joker. His craziness is epic.

2. Alfred Pennyworth

He’s like god, only more efficient. And he strains under the burden of always being right, sir.(And, apparently he likes Soap Operas). (Though he'll never admit it).

1. The Batfamily

Alright, no matter how much some people hate this, and no matter how many times certain writers try to destroy it, or go completely fucking overboard (Batman Inc Grant Morrison? Really? Seriously?) it seems pretty resilient. The comics I enjoy the most are the ones that feature this. Dick being an older brother to Tim, Bruce being a really screwed up father/brother figure to them, Jason lurking around the edges, Barbara being totally awesome and pwning them all except possibly Bruce when it comes to tech, and Alfred there with the tea.

eight things i love, comics, batman
