Why is there so much sexual angst in anime?

According to this article, the Japanese have the lowest (25.7 percent) rate of satisfaction with their sex lives of all surveyed countries. The article states that relationships based on equality are much more likely to satisfy everyone involved.

I think this explains a few things about the Anime that many of us watch.

• The main characters in 'Harem' anime many times seem to have a very low libedo. (eg, Shuffle)


• Often we see the stereotype of a meek, submissive japanese girl.


• There is a feeling of 'otherworldlyness' in the female characters who can actually kick ass (or are agressive sexually).

I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.
