more and more i am becoming frustrated with my choice of school, sometimes even to the point of even (almost since im still here) physcially switching from this one to a different one. therefore, to finally just vent my frustration (and hopefully open eyes of any future ocad hopefuls), here are just some of the reasons why ocad sucks (ass) :
- "teachers" like david cabanica who a) does not respect his students and b) treates them like idiots (sorry we dont have a phd in typography there sir...please dont hit me! *rolls eyes) as well, if you have ever had him as a teacher, you will know why i put " "s in the beginning.
- they do things like make us by $4800+ laptops, only to spend $400+ more each year to keep them and no one likes em, except for the few mac lovers out there. but even so, the screens apparently cause vision problems (i now have to wear glasses - before, perfect vision) and also, for the males out there, if you put the heated crapitosh on your lap for too long, it will cause stertility (apparently this is noted on teh ocad laptop site)
- this "wonderful, exciting and brilliant" (that did NOT come from me, trust me) sharp centre for design (for those who are only vaguely familiar with it, its known as the checkerboard box on stilts) aka. the checkerboard bug thats humping our school! when people find out i go to this school, with that building, usually the next thign out of their mouth is how the building is ugly, stupid, etc (yes, we know) and BANG my credit as a designer just went down teh drain. i mean, its a canadian school, why the hell did we get a british designer to do it! we have how many graduates from here...we couldn't let them try it out first? we couldn't, i uno, narrow it down to a few designs and let there be a vote?! gah. that damn thing cost 42.5 million dollars...i think it was a waste.
esp bc our school motto is "ideas need space" yet there is atleast 3 floors worth of WASTED SPACE in between that humping bug and our old school. did i miss soemthing here?! hmm....3 floors compared to our 2
you know together ocad...that could have been 5 floors.
- btw ocad, did you notice the state of our chairs, couches and tables...and most of the walls...did you ever think about fixing this stuff up when you were budgeting 42.5 million dollars for a humping bug? (i really dont like the look of hte building, as you can tell)
-another thing i *love* is their (staffs) lack of caring towards its students...awhile ago there was a student who died before he even attended the school, sad yes, god bless his soul, i have nothign against that or to bitch about, its what was in the email that pissed me off....in an email (saying they were going to hold an auction to raise money for the students family) they said "here at ocad, we take the time to personally get to know each one of the students that attend ocad" MY ASS, you know how they got to know me? they called me one night in august (before i woudl start my first year) during suppertime! and said "do you have any questions abotu your year coming up?" being a bit distracted by EATING AND THE COMPLETE RANDOMNESS OF CALL, i said "not that i can think of..." and the lady on the other end said "ok, miss miller, have a nice night and good year at ocad" wow...i think we like...bonded or soemthing... since then when i have asked a question, i get the generic email in response...thanks ocad!
- another thing with the wasted space....a small residence woudl have been nice! as if living in toronto isn't expensive enough...arg, neway
i guess i shoudl say one good thing about the 42.5 million dollars spent. some of the money went towards putting a new front of the old building (just main entrance) and i must say that i do like that...its what design should look like. Its clean, yet light and sophisticated yet goofy. its how an art/design school should look like. make the students look good, but not look like an institution
right now, alot of this is beign fueled by david.........*glare of death in his direction
*deep breathes....
ok,
i think i need some chocolate....hehehehehhe >:)
