On tablets

Jobbs said that tablets are a new way of computing, I see no breakthrough here. For entertainment yes, it's good to be able to lie on the couch and not get crispy-fried by the fan of a laptop? but seriously, 90% of the time I use my computer for work. And this is not a device on which I can actually work.

But wait -> entertainment. I think a 23 - 29 inch LCD screen with a laptop is even better, I can lie on the sofa and watch all I want. Connect a wireless keyboard and mouse and you're set.

Hmmm...games. I play games, sometimes, but seriously, gaming on the iPad, I tried it, casual games, ok, as a time killer, but no serious games, graphics on the level on the year 2000, and controls feel like crap, again, tablets lose.

Reading, iPad doesn't have a PixelQi display, therefore useless in summer. And an e-reader is cheaper.

OS, well, locked zipped and uncustomizable OS is cool, maybe, but not for me.

Design in both hardware and OS and GUI. Seriously, let's be honest. A decent idea for the iMacs right now is old and stale. And the bubbly glossy design of the app buttons makes me want to vomit. Might as well buy a kid's thing and have all the bubbly soft-edges I need for a lifetime.

Computing, umm, let's not talk about processors, m'k?

Tablet's try to do everything specialized gadgets do, but right now do everything pretty mediocre. Useless expensive toys IMO.

Their only plus is bringing mediocre computing to a new level of mobility. In that case yes, they merit a purchse + look futuristic, but that's their only appeal right now.

tablets, apple, jobbs
