productive weekend!

built linux 2.6.17 kernel ... for non-nerds, that is like .... nvm. decided not to use it though because my system worked better with old drivers. fairly smooth process.

set up a samba file server and messed with ssh server. also played tweaked with firewall (firestarter) to make things work smoother. the entire process was a big pain. i was modifying startup configurations, so everytime i changed anything, i had to restart my computer.

worked on a perl script that generates a playlist i started a few days ago ... given an input phrase, it will search through my music collection for files containing the phrase and play it. also, none of my songs are on my native hard drive, so things can run really slow. the most time consuming part was writing code to go through the directory structure. i ended up grabbing directory traversal code online after my recursive method didn't work. after that, it was just ironing small issues out. i hope to add more throughout the summer.

my first open source hack! i downloaded the code for snes9x, a snes emulator, and built it for linux. the key mappings were all off and i couldn't find out how to change them, so i ended up digging through the code and remapping them. not a big hack, but still noteworthy. maybe i'll try and get involved with this a little more.

i watched click with randy, alex, and francine. it is not a great adam sandler, but by far the best message of any film i've seen all year. so don't see it for the laughs, but see it for the message. we also ate at bakedhouse. it is a typical american cuisine restaurant. not too thrilling and not very notable.

i also sprained my ankle, but that will be points for nerd-productivity.

happy 21st birthday alex ting. i am 99.999999999999% sure you will never read this because only about 5 people in the world (including me) know about this.
