so i'm an idiot.
In roughly august i quit working at Denevi Video Reflections and got a job at Target making $8/hr. Frank the owner of Denevi's called me sometime in september and rehired me to do a side project for him for $11/hr. He said all i had to do was write down my hours and give them to mary at the end of every pay period and there'd be a check for me on payday. I worked for him honestly and wrote down my hours and gave them to mary. About 3-4 months ago my grandma started getting sick so i had to leave work early a lot of the days i worked. Naturally i didnt want to lose the amount of pay i was receiving so i would write down 8-5 hours per day and leave a few hours early. This is known as "padding hours". Sometime in the last month i think frank got bored with the project i was doing for him so he told me not to come in for the week because he was having some "graphic designers" train. When i told him i needed the work due to not having another job he told me to talk to him monday. i came in monday and he wasnt there so i got another workstation set up for me and worked the week. i came in friday and all my stuff had been taken and put away. when i asked where my stuff had gone my coworker told me that he was told that nothing was being done with it anymore and it was taken. so i talked to another coworker who gave me the idea to get frank reinterested in the project by doing something to impress him. so i made a lil presentation folder with the contact sheets i made in it. He wasnt impressed and told me it wasn't something he needed. he asked me about the week he told me not to come in, i told him i worked and he asked me to show him the work i did. He didnt think it was enough work for one week and said that he didnt mind paying for something if there was something actually being done. when i showed him more of the work i did he started telling me about people who were in the pics and talking about where they were taken and then told me to burn those folders to a disc. i did and when i was finished he was in a meeting so i went home.
the next day i was at the grocery store and i get a call from frank. he asked me "why would you do that?" when i asked what he meant he said "that's fraud thats not right, you can't do that. " and after being angry with me on the phone for a few minutes he said that he'd notified the authorities and if i stepped foot on the property he'd have me arrested. he also said that he had to go out of town for a while and when he got back he'd figure out what he was gonna do.
two weeks later (i.e. today) he calls and says "well my insurance can cover this, but im going to have to have you arrested, now im not sure if thats what you want, cuz that will mess you up for the long term. so if you can figure out a way to compensate me then we can consider this finished." i asked how much i owed him and he told me $6000 for all the hours i'd worked because that was how much he is insured for. i said "but i didnt skimp on hours for the whole time i worked for you" and he said "i know that, but thats how much i'm insured for. so if you can figure out when you started doing that i can verify it on the cameras and we can calculate it from there get back to me monday"
i know this is my fault but i'm scared. i think i only did it for about 3 months...but i hope i'm not wrong. fuck.
