The last 3 weeks- Recap. New Zealand

Dec 01, 2008 18:02

I've not posted in weeks. So busy, lots of fun, crazy schedule and sweet quiet adventures. I don't so much mind it when life in flesh gets in the way of the digital life. Of course, at times I had trouble getting any sort of net access, which drove me nuts. It's one thing to choose to unplug, another to not have the choice.

Let's see if I can recap on some of the highlights with photos...

Flew to New Zealand by way of Sydney. After all this flying, I still love (mostly) air travel. The sight of international tail fins lined up at the airport, the view from the window, the flow of people at the major airports - still makes my heart rush. Was I a sailor or a nomad in another life? I'm weird. I like Sydney airport. The Air New Zealand lounge is really lovely. (only to high light, once again, how sucky the United lounges are.) I'll be experiencing the Singapore Airline lounges soon. I'm looking forward to that.

Photos from the plane, because it always takes my breath away...

Southern Exposure: A truly remarkable event. Steve, puss and the SE team do a fantastic job bringing their vision into shape. They really pour their heart, soul and everything into their firm belief that education and grassroots community building around sex/kink positivity matters deeply. The attendees and volunteers are really friendly and dedicated to authentically connecting. They make me feel welcome without the odd feeling of being projected upon.
The friends that I stayed with totally took great care of me too. Even as I tore my hair out dealing with tech and phishing problems.

I got to do the full length version of my class "Rope Dance" (tm) for the first time there. It was slotted for 9:30am on Sunday for 2 hours - which turned out to be the most perfect slot. It worked out like a wake-up yoga and dance class. Perfect for after the NZ Fetish Ball with the groggy heads and post play stiff bodies.

I don't have any photos from this event because 1) no photos allowed and 2) I was too busy.

Speaking of the New Zealand Fetish Ball Kumi and I requested a specific stage structure for our show. They kindly installed it so I was able to bind paint and throw her out over the head of the crowd. I didn't get to hang out at the party itself as I most of it socializing behind stage or cleaning off from the messy show. I hope someone has photos for us on this one. I did hear that some 'master' type tried to star f**k Kumi, but even deep in JD, she's a tough cookie. (actually hella tougher then I think!)

Oh and a kinky lodging is being created in Christchurch! Think of it as a Bed & Dungeon. If anyone wants info, let me know.

I really like Christchurch. It's pretty and charming.
One evening my dearest friends and I ate at the Curator's House, an elegant restaurant of Canterbury based delish dishes.

The Christchurch Art Gallery takes my breath away with the great contemporary arts exhibited there. I loved it last time and they didn't disappoint me. I have fallen in love with the works of a remarkable artist through their thorough retrospective of Fiona Hall's work. I could not have fully appreciated her work with out being able to wonder through this well curated show.

The Arts Centre is a really neat former school building (very Harry Potter looking building) made into a maze of little art shops. Some fine art, some fab jewelry, some cute gifts.

I get the feeling that there's some remarkable art being created in this island nation. I have got to explore NZ more! I want to come back for the Wearable Art Festival! Even out in the country roads you'll find an art cafe with ingenious work. In the middle of no-where we came across the Little River Gallery. Then I realized I'd been there with K last time I was in town a part of the dirt bike tour. Lovely food. Good coffee and some fab huge metal sculptures. Oh and Kumi in the window being Kumi as we pulled up after their car.

ok my car's here for the airport. more soon
