SF IMPROV FEST PRESS RELEASE

USC Troupe joined by Special Bay-Area Guests for 5th Annual San Francisco Improv Festival
USC's Second Nature travels to the San Francisco Improv Festival as the festival's only college troupe and welcomes special celebrity guests

University of Southern California's student-run improv troupe, Second Nature, will be performing three nights only at the 5th Annual San Francisco Improv Festival. Out of 20 troupes invited to perform throughout the seven week festival, Second Nature is the youngest and only college troupe to join the ranks of these improv professionals.

Second Nature performs a style of improv known as the "Armando," which offers a series of improvised scenes inspired by on the spot monologues told by a special guest monologist. To make the experience uniquely San Francisco, Second Nature has invited guest monologists who call the Bay-Area home. Joining the group as monologists will be three prominent San Francisco writers: Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket, author of A Series of Unfortunate Events), Andrew Leland (managing editor of The Believer), and prominent human sexuality writer, teacher, and author Midori (www.planetmidori.com).

Second Nature will be sharing the bill with local San Francisco improvisers, The Un-Scripted Theater Company.

The shows run from July 24-26, 2008 at the festival's "Union Square Stage" at the San Francisco Playhouse. All shows begin at 8pm.

ABOUT SECOND NATURE
A USC student-run organization, Second Nature was formed in 2002 and comprises approximately 8 members each year who celebrate the art of improvisational comedy.

During the school year, Second Nature performs weekly at USC's Ground Zero Café and has appeared throughout Los Angeles and the United States including at ImprovOlympic, The West Side Eclectic, and The Dirty South Improv Festival. In addition to its regular schedule, the troupe performed four special shows in 2008 to benefit the Writer's Guild of America. This past year, guest monologists have included Kate Flannery (The Office), Tom Lennon (The State, Reno 911!), Lauren Weedman (The Daily Show), and Will Sasso (MADtv).

The group also puts on the annual Fracas! Improv Festival. Sponsored by the Onion, the international festival is the nation's largest all collegiate improv festival. Last year, the festival welcomed 18 college troupes from the U.S. and England for three days of performances, workshops, and celebrity discussion panels. Past panelists have included Angela Kinsey, Melora Hardin, and Ed Helms of The Office, Jerry Minor (SNL, Carpoolers), Brian Huskey (Superbad), Todd Stashwick (The Riches), as well as guests from "The Daily Show," "MADtv," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and many more. For more information on the festival, which just finished its fifth year, visit www.2nimprov.com/fracas

This year, Second Nature is making their first trip to the San Francisco Improv Festival, performing three shows of their fast paced "Armando" style.
