Holaaaaa
I'd been putting this post off for a coupla weeks because of a multitude of reasons (with school leading the pack) and it's only just now that I felt genuinely inspired to blog about my (awesome awesome awesome) trip to Hong Kong. Why inspiration just had to hit me at 8.20 in the morning after a sleepless night beats the hell out of me, but it has so I am here. What's new anyway?
I've made a playlist for the trip, that you can listen to here:
This was pretty much my anthem for the trip :) Made it on the flight there, because I was bored shitless and didn't feel like watching a movie from KrisWorld. Ended up playing it every morning that we woke up in those 4-5 days much to the bane of Andrea and Nat hehehehe. Anyway enjoi! If you play it while reading the entry maybe it'll set the moodzz and shit.
The post is awfully long so I've split it into two, potentially three parts. Here goes Part I!
First things first! Here are our accomplices for the trip:
Andrea and Nat <3
Lucky us got the Airbus 380 on our trip there :) though it doesn't exactly make a difference unless you're on business/first class, gold was still a nice change from a dreary blue/purple combination.
Picked up by Edwin when we got there ^^
Our cui post-flight faces. I guess you can't really see it here, but we were DELIRIOUS. Our v first trip overseas without our parents!! I mean I've gone on buying/business trips with Clare sans the folks before, but this was the first time going on our own holiday. I know we sound like big babies but we're 18, and it felt so good. I'm sure you know how it feels. Do you remember the first time you took your own independent holiday? :)
Passing through the Ting Kau Bridge. At this point Andrea and Nat had passed out (with both of them lying on either of my shoulders haha). I think I was the only one awake in the backseat despite having barely slept too - I think I was just too exhilarated to be back in HK since my last visit in the summer of '07. The nightlights, people, the sights and sounds; just couldn't wait to take it in I guess :) I love HK <3
After landing/reaching our hotel it was about 930+ at night, so there wasn't much to do on a Tuesday night 'cept for wandering around Causeway Bay (which was a stone's throw away from our hotel) looking at what was left of the open shops. There was still a lot to look at though :) HK did what it could to welcome us! LOL we actually underestimated how close CWB was to our hotel - we flagged a cab about a block or two away from our hotel, telling him CWB, and he swiveled around in his seat to throw us a look of incredulity and condescendence before jabbing his finger out the window and growling "YOU'RE IN CAUSEWAY BAY"
lol oops.
We chuckled sheepishly before tumbling out of the cab.
DAY TWO (5 JAN 2011):
The next day Andrea happened to get a pretty severe allergic reaction, so we had to dash to the nearest hospital. It was a bit of a worrying experience sitting in the reception area, but after a quick jab she was fine, so that was good! The nurses at the Hong Kong Sanatorium are surprisingly efficient. We returned to the hotel and rested a bit before deciding that our second day would be dedicated to.. shopping :D Doing what air-headed girls do best!
I was actually trying to take a picture of the little boy who was so G (asymmetrical socks and all) but didn't expect to see the smiling locals! I actually only noticed while looking through my pictures when I got back. So cute :D
On the ferry to Tsim Tsa Tsui - fastest and cheapest way to get from Central/Wan Chai to TST (at only 2.50HKD!), not to mention the prettiest
They were filming a scene by the Victoria Harbour. One of the girls was wearing a cosplay-esque outfit though. You can see a bit of her pink train. Weee-ird
Trying to look for Langham Place
After a fruitful day of shopping :)
DAY THREE (6 JANUARY 2011):
Edwin sending us to Disneyland
Somehow along the way we had this ridiculous idea to start fooling around while taking the rollercoaster rides so we'd have something to laugh at afterwards. Hence the above mishaps. Our fail attempt to emulate this:
Trying to pose like the topiary behind us.....
I hate to end this on a depressing note but it was shortly after the last picture was taken that I realized I'd lost my wallet. Whether it got pickpocketed or left somewhere unknowingly (I am an irresponsible idiot afterall) still remains a mystery but either way, I don't have it anymore, and it's definitely in Hong Kong. It had a good amount of money in it too. That godawful moment of realization when I couldn't find my wallet took place when we were about to pay the fare for a cab that had stopped in Central. That was a good island away from Disneyland, so there was no way we could head back since Disneyland had closed by then already. It was heart-wrenching. I felt pangs in my heart like I've never felt before. The only positive feeling that's come out of that situation is that at least I'd had the smarts to take out my passport and leave it in the hotel safe, and thank god I had Uncle Dannis in HK who immediately helped me out later that night.
Sigh. It hurts even now to think about it. I don't even remember when exactly I had lost it, because that entire day I only took out my wallet ONCE, and it was to buy the waffles :( after that it was just happy happy yay fun and then BAM ohmylord wallet gone. And the sad thing is Uncle Dannis had texted me just hours before to be careful, because a lot of pickpockets lurked around the area we were in, targeting tourists specifically. UGH stupid me grrarrrr.
Well I'll end here:
A happier picture to cheer myself up with :(
Part II to come soon!
Happy Chinese New Year errybadi
