As is so often the case, I got up well before my wife.
But, when we were both up we headed over to the Worcester Art Museum.
http://www.worcesterart.orgI don’t like that museum just because it is next to where I met my wife, but that doesn’t hurt.
The museum is under construction and a bit difficult to get into.
They have a special Samurai that looks at the modern interpretations of it.
Including some things I don’t think of as overly samurai-ish
They had an interesting series of prints that were based on games and cartoons in an older style.
Mario cart.
Pokemon
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
They also had some fairly big pieces.
They also had a very impressive hat.
Godzilla even made an appearance.
Some interesting pieces…Even if not the happiest subjects…
I did like the big mural over the museum entrance.
We also went across the hall to where the things from the old Higgins museum now live.
The tall one second in from the right is what we’re thinking of trying to work with this fall if we can find some reproductions.
We visited our favorite sword. (The one on the right.)
It is very nice…
They are now listing who made it and where.
So, all I need to do is get in my time machine and go there and I can get one like it!
Where did I leave that time machine?
This is a funky sword I don’t remember before. Sorry it’s blurry.
The museum was very empty.
My wife has a helmet just like this.
My wife spent some time with the jade. It’s her favorite.
I like this vase.
OK, it isn’t a bench, but my wife did sit for a bit in the Chapter House.
Oh look, there is a bench!
My wife specifically wanted to see the "fish fountain gallery".
We also went to the other modern art gallery one floor down from that.
It’s got an exhibit dedicated to Robert Goddard. The guy who hated Worcester so much that he invented the ICBM and began to bomb his neighbors so the government would pay him to move out to the desert. (That’s not the official version of the story…)
I don’t remember seeing this one before.
It is very 3 dimensional.
I thought this interesting.
This is more famous.
We ate at the museum cafe. I was happy that for the summer they have my favorite desert again.
(My wife says that since we were the only folks in the cafe the wait staff was talking about us. I didn’t notice.)
On the way out of the museum we saw that a great many people had placed their admittance stickers all over the place. I’m not sure if it is part of the art experience or just littering…
After that we went shopping. My wife has decided to learn to play chess, so we stopped at bought a chess set at Barnes and Noble.
Then we went to the supermarket next door.
They are also displaying wood in the deli case.
There was a monster hiding in the Doritos.
It tried to hide, but I still saw it.
Later in the day I went off for a walk as it was a very nice afternoon.
I saw our complex’s pool is now open.
It isn’t heated. I think I’ll wait a bit.
It bothers me that even though the leaves have only been out on the trees for about three weeks, some have already been stripped.
Not sure what’s doing it, but not good.
Still, nice to be green.
