1. How many jobs have you had, and which was your favorite?
Since getting out of engineering school I have had 9 jobs counting the one I have now. I’m not sure I have a favorite. There is a clear worst (the first) and several I liked a lot. But, no one that is a clear winner for best.

2. When did you first connect to other people via computers?
In the fall of 1981 the head of the computer center at my engineering school cancelled my computer account because "all I seemed to do with it was send email to people." I needed to understand that "computers are not for email".

3. Were/are you on AOL? Compuserve? LJ? Dreamwidth? A Listserv? Other?
72762.3054@compuserve.com! I haven’t used that email this millennium. But, I still remember it.

4. If you went to college, does your major match your career/current job?
Mostly. I got a degree in mechanical engineering and now I’m a mechanical engineering manager. I still do a lot of engineering.

5. Have you had a mammogram? Colonoscopy?
No/yes.

6. When did you get your first cell phone? What was it like? (Did it have a screen? Could you text? Was it a brick or flip?)
I think it was in 1996. It was a brick. No texting. I still don’t text much.

7. When did your family first acquire a color TV?
I do not remember not having one.

8. When did your family acquire a second TV?
My father collected used ones and repaired them. So, we always had more than one. Sometimes more than one worked.

9. Did you ever own “designer jeans”?
Nope. Jeans wear the skin off of my legs.

10. Have you ever been to a disco?
Not as such. But, I went to many disco parties in the 70’s and early 80’s. None specifically at a disco.

11. How many places (towns, states, countries) have you lived in?
1 Country (USA), 2 States Massachusetts and New Hampshire, 4 towns (Westwood, Worcester and Shrewsbury Mass. Lebanon NH.)

12. Have any of your contemporary friends died? (I.e., people more or less you age.)
Yes.

13. Are your parents still living?
My father died 15 years ago. I haven’t talked to my mother in 5 years, but she sent me a Christmas card. So, she’s probably still alive. Or, a zombie. Do they send cards?

14. Do you have any gray hairs?
My wife takes great joy in pointing them out to me.

15. Did you or your family own a Betamax?
Nope. Only VHS.

16. How did you spend New Year’s Eve 1999/2000?
I don’t remember. I think we stayed home and friends came over to visit.

17. What’s the oldest article of clothing you still wear?
That cloak I bought in 1991.

18. Do you eat your vegetables?
No, not really.

19. Are the privileges of adulthood worth the responsibilities?
Yes. I hated being a kid.

20. Do you feel like an adult?
No. I am constantly afraid I will wake up in 1973 and will only be 10 years old and everything since a dream.

21. Is youth wasted on the young?
Not that I can tell. Most of them seem to do a pretty good job of enjoying it.
