Some of you may remember that a couple of months ago my wife and I went to a viking feast:
http://fbhjr.livejournal.com/62524.html Bill, our host for that, found my post and has filled in the information I lacked. (As I said he seems to be very tolerant of historical hacks like myself.) He encouraged me to share the extra information, so here it is.
Frank:
Every so often I google combinations of "viking" and "higgins" and
"hurstwic" to see what folks are saying. Today, I came across your
comments on the feast earlier in the year. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
A couple of comments.
Knattleikr (the ball game) translates to "ball game". More information
about it here:
http://www.hurstwic.org/history/articles/daily_living/text/knattleikr.htm Skyr is a complex food, created by partially digesting the milk, then
allowing bacteria (skyr bugs) to grow in it. It's not like yogurt, it's
not like pudding, it's not like cheese -- it's like something in the
middle. Yummy.
The book is in the hands of the publisher. He moved the release date
forward by four months, so now, it should be out this November. I ought to
have edited text back in my hands by the middle of this month. It's
available for preorder from all the major on-line booksellers. According
to the publisher, Barnes and Noble placed a large preorder for their brick
and mortar stores, but I don't know if large means 30 copies or
30,000. Here's some more information lifted from the Westholme catalog:

from a trip last February:

I hope you folks are doing well.
Bill
I knew Bill was a web detective as my wife is. So, I found it very amusing to see the proof of that.
