Adventures in hospitals

I’ve been trying to get my boss to sit down and review my project for a
week.
He always has some change he wants on things, usually for the better.
By the end of the week, we have to present it to the CEO for approval.
I told him I needed to leave at 9 today to take my wife in for some tests.
At 8:50 he called me to review the project. Anyone who knows me knows I
build in extra time, so I was OK with it. OK, until at 20 past he said
“now let’s look at your other projects.” That’s when I had to bug out on
him.
We still got to the hospital in time.
My wife registered and was told to wait. We waited. And, waited. And,
waited.
Half an hour after she was scheduled to be seen, I suggested she ask to be
sure.
“Oh no,” the woman said. “You should be waiting in radiology.”
My wife was bitter.
But, we went down to radiology and waited there. The good news was we only
waited about 5 minutes there before they took her.
While they were doing the tests, I got to go to the ATM machine so I could
pay for parking, watch “The Price is Right” with Drew Carey, and try and
figure out how they used remote action hinges on a glass door on the TV
table in the waiting room.
The ATM was interesting because the woman in front of me seemed to have
some trouble with it. I was a bit surprised when at the “how much do you
want” she hit the enter button first, and numbers second. She seemed
surprised it gave her card back and thanked her. The second time around
she said she wouldn’t accept the fee to use the machine, and again seemed
surprised when it gave back her card and thanked her. But, the third time,
it worked.
Drew Carey was the most bored game show host I’ve ever seen. “Ah well, you
lose. Who’s next?” “No, the girl doesn’t come with the car. Everyone
asks that same question.” was the sort of stuff he was saying at a normal
conversational level.
Maybe it was comedy.
The hinge thing was easy. They weren’t attached to glass. They took the
doors off and just left the hinges sitting in space. (I probably should
have thought the glass was too clear or something, but it’s a hospital.
Things should be clean, right?)
My wife did finally come out. (Just after the guy from CO failed to win
the car because he was $1 to short in the game.)
They didn’t find any emergency problems, and told her they should have
results in a week or so.
We went to lunch.
Then, back to work.
I guess the good news is, if she hadn’t waited an extra ½ hour, it would
have been too early for lunch and we would have just gone back to work.
I do still long for Star Trek level medicine. I want Dr. Bashir as my
primary care physician. (I like Dr. Crusher too, but the genetically
enhanced brain tips the scales for me.)
