Both radio stations we’re using to advertize our faire have asked for comp
tickets to give away on the air next week.
It’s hard to say no. Commercials are $1 second (and, these are the cheap
stations) and it takes more than 10 seconds to give away a ticket. So, by
letting them give them away, we actually get cheaper commercials.
But, printing 60 free tickets that would normally sell for $600 to give
away does make me cringe a little bit.
Yes, I am quite sure that folks who get them through the radio stations are
not the people we would normally get. And, for every ticket given away a
few hundred people will hear about our faire.
I was happy to find that Staples sells ticket blanks. So, that’s what we
used.
However, their software for using them is pretty bizarre and not really
very useful.
You go to a web site where you fill in what you want. You only get one
shot or you start over as there is no undo or any way to remove anything
you put it. You can only put in one graphic, it decides where to put it
and it has to be in one particular color format or it won’t work. (And,
won’t tell you why. It took my wife about half an hour of guessing to find
the right combination.)`
And, they are in sheets of 8. Each radio station wanted groups of 20, plus
20 for the promotional event next week.
I made different tickets for each so we can track where they come from.
But, that left me with 12 extra tickets.
So, I plugged in the shredder and made sure they won’t be used.
But, it did feel like shredding money.
Granted, it they were used it is money we won’t make.
So, I guess it is shredding negative money.
Nope. Still don’t feel great about it.
