October adventures

I like October.

But, I can really tell it is getting darker earlier. one way is that every other week when we go to Lowell, the neon donkey kicking sign is now one we we get there at 5:30.

perrin_o_ravnos and I are trying to rebuild the bec de corbins we use in shows. I tried to clean the heads of them by washing them in Tarnex. Sadly, this seems to have activated the surface, making them rust far more the day after.

I’ve been using Liquid Wrench on them the rest of the week. Hopefully they’ll clean up today at practice.

They’ve been promising our apartment “Balcony repairs” for a year now. Granted there are a lot of buildings in the complex. But, it looks like they finally started in the courtyard next to our courtyard.

I went to the bookstore across the street the other day. It was very strange. They had World Of Warcraft books under the Gambling shelf. What are they trying to say...

It has been very windy lately. The oil change place near us has one of those fan powered floppy guys out in front. Apparently it was so windy it got blown over. But, the fan kept going.

Friday was game night. I forgot my camera, so few pictures. It was a small crowd this month, but we still had a good time.
blue_micha brought the bottle of Absinthe my wife and I bought her for her a while ago. There was much debate about how it needs to be prepared. But, we found the bottle had some instructions with it and it all worked out. I don’t drink, so I have no idea how good or bad it is. But, she seemed to like it and that’s what’s important.

Yesterday we went up to NH to help Tom and Brett work on their new house. Tom is an outstanding guy. In this case, out standing in the street trying to guy someone else on his way to their house.

(They are right at the edge of cellphone range. I can get a signal in their yard, but not in their house. So, there is a lot of going outside for calls.)

Tom and I went for supplies at the local Home Despot. I was stunned by what was just inside the door.

It’s not even Columbus day and they have Christmas stuff up all over. I miss the days folks waited until Thanksgiving.
And, what’s with an inflatable Santa in a dive bomber? (It even had propellors that turned.) When did Santa move over to that means of transport?
But, it could be worse. On the way there we saw someone dressed as a donut dancing in front of a Dun’kin Donuts.

Anyhow, there was lots of work to be done, and we were happy to do it.

My wife helped paint the trim.

I helped Tom clean the kitchen.

OK, some of you might think “two of you cleaned the kitchen while the others painted the trim all over the house, you got off easy.”
No. We didn’t.
We cleaned every surface, radiator, closet, drawer and cabinet. We’re pretty sure this is the first time in 15 years there has been more than a quick rinse on the place. We moved all of the appliances and cleaned under them.
When we moved the dryer. there were dust bunnies bigger than cats under it. Tom went at them with the wet dry vac. Then, the vac jammed. He opened it up and found a pair of bright pink panties stuck in it. So, the dust was so deep, bright pink panties could go unnoticed. Under the refrigerator, Tom just took up the tiles.
We went through 8 buckets of water for the fairly small room and still had it turning black when we put the mops in it. Finally, Tom skated around on scubbie pads to get up the dirt and that seemed to help a lot.

So, today sword practice. Tomorrow, back to work! Yaaay!
