Adventures with the House of Ick

Last night on the way to the class I took some pictures that I was too tired to post yesterday.
So, here is the view from Holy Cross into Worcester during sunset and after dark from as close to the same view as I could manage.

The room we were in wasn’t the best for a hopping up and down lesson, but we made due.

Today I made the trip out to the House of Ick to bring my mother in law groceries. It was an extensive list that added up to almost $200. A lot of it was sugar based. (7 bottles of fruit juice, 3 6-packs of soda, frozen fruit, etc.)
I’m thinking that maybe her boyfriend isn’t in a pact with the devil as I thought but may be a Bug from the Men In Black movie...

Although I can’t really say I like going out to my MIL’s place, it is a scenic drive.

I had said I would be Noodleman and bring my wife lunch today. But, it was still quite early. So, I stopped at several nice spots along the way.

I think this is another Ent, granted a skinny one. It has it’s arms raised and it’s face is looking slightly away from me, probably at my car...

I also stopped at a parking area near the watershed.

Then, I drove to the end of the world.

There I found myself behind the runway for the Worcester airport.

There, they had a flashing X at the end of the runway with several cars gathered around.

So, if my MIL’s boyfriend is an alien, this is probably where he landed. I’m sure that is the Men In Black down there at the end of the runway signaling other ships. That’s my answer and I’m sticking with it.

Back in May my wife and I went to the Worcester Art Museum and saw a painting made from the farm of one of the city founders. Then, we went and tried to find the spot where it was, but had the wrong hill.
Today, I went to the right hill and found the place.

The good news is, there is a park on the spot!
The bad news is, they have no parking for cars. So, I drove by twice and really annoyed the person behind me by stopping to get that one photo. At some point I’ll have to find a place to park so I can go back.

When I was a kid my father used to drive me around looking at things like this all the time. But, since he worked for the power company he was looking for generation plants, power lines and distribution substations like this.

He even had a 4 wheel drive vehicle long before it was fashionable tracing where the power lines went. But, not my thing so I headed over to the Chinese place near Holy Cross for my noodles.

Across the street from that place is a church with a window I like.

I don’t know what the glass has as a pattern. i just like the shape of the window itself.

Then, back up the hill to have lunch with my wife.

On the way back I passed a sign that disappointed me. It is for a strip club along route 20. When driving by I always thought there were two Chinese symbols on the sign.

I pondered what they were. Are they Chinese symbols for strippers? Dancers?
Sadly, when closer, you can see they aren’t Chinese symbols, but images of women sitting in martini glasses.

I don’t think that is anywhere close to as interesting.
To be fair, neither option had any chance of getting me to go in and spend money. But, it was nice to think there was some other layer to the place then nude women.
Ah well, too much to hope for.

On the job front, I got two things today.
One was an interview request for a place in Maryland. I told them I didn’t want to relocate and that put and end to that.
The other one was a “thanks but we’re not hiring” from one of the blind letters I sent out yesterday.
It is nice when I find that these letters I send out to companies that have not advertised for an engineer have been looked at. Having sent out dozens and dozens of them, I’ve had about 4 responses from them, all that they didn’t have an opening.
But, one day turn around?
I’m surprised they even got it to read it yet.
