Ent Update

I tried to beat the heat today by going for my walk fairly early this morning.

OK, 9:30 which isn’t that early. I had hoped it wouldn’t be that hot yet, and was wrong. It was still very warm, especially in the sun.
The good news is that the poison ivy seems to be dying.

Of course, the trees in general are starting to turn colors.

That is a bit early, but given the strange weather this year, I can’t blame the plants for being confused.

The post office, my goal, was past the town hall, so I continued on.

Folks may remember that several months ago I wrote about Ent activity here in Shrewsbury. I thought I should check and see how things were going for the Ents.

The first one seems to be doing OK. It’s still hanging out on its side street overseeing lots of trees.

There also seemed to be a lot of healing over by where the second one had been spotted.

But, it looks like its fight with the town might still be going on.

The town was building something on the edge of the field. The crude dirt wall they had tried to use to keep it in place four months ago was gone, and it took me a bit to figure out what they were trying now.

Then, I realized they were building a henge.

This makes a lot of sense. The henges in Britain certainly keep the Ents in line there. I’m not sure they’ve got the right idea for the assembly of it, but they’ll probably figure it out.

The Ent house near the field was easy to find. Follow the trail of plant footsteps.

The hedges around the Ent home are very tall, so it is quite hard to tell if the Ent is inside.

Of course it is not at all clear how much of a henge is needed to drive off an Ent. This could be the first such research done. In fact, I bet it is...

It is easy to see where the ent is moving the trees around. It clearly shuns the road.

The Ent also appears to have recruited a lookout.

I strongly suspect the Ent was back there. But, there is just no way to be sure.

I’m glad the Ent seems happy shunning the town instead of stomping the town. After all, it is a lot better to have a flowering hedge rather than a big stomping mad tree.

Of course the town left a not too subtle reminder of what chain saws can do right outside the Ent house.

I think this is the equivalent of a horse head in bed...

I got back to the apartment and found that on a day when we were on the verge of setting a high temperature record, the pool was closed.

That only makes sense if they’re trying to appease the Ent, so that’s my guess.
