Commence primary ignition

I had my interview with the laser place today.
It went OK.
The lead engineer was very clear with me about what he wanted.
I showed him a diagram I made many years ago at the last laser place of an entire laser marker machine.
“I want the person who designed this,” he said, pointing to the laser at the heart of the system.
“Sadly, my company bought the actual lasers,” I said. “But, almost everything else on the drawer was designed by me.”
“I know, I’m just telling you I want the guy who did the laser,” he said. “But, I can’t find him. That’s why I’m talking to you. You don’t have what I want, but you’re close.”
Close enough?
Hard to say.
Based on talking with him and two of his engineers, I think I could handle the work they’re doing. It’s hard to say when they really can’t tell me too much about it. But, I’ve been pretty good at picking up stuff other places I’ve worked. It’s not like I had designed office furniture before AIS, or done any electronic packaging before NED.
But, there are literally hundreds of people to choose from. The fact I got to interview at all says I’m closer than most. But, I’m still not sure it will be enough.
We’ll see.
Afterwards I met perrin_o_ravnos for lunch as he works across the street from there. (A fairly late lunch given the 2 1/2 hour interview.)
He was nice enough to show me one of the good local spots for lunch and buy me lunch. So, that was a nice finish to the process.

I have to admit, after 2 1/2 hours of pitching the stuff I’ve done and why it should apply, I was pretty brain dead when I got home. Maybe drained is a better way to say it.

But, I got through it and they didn’t seem too disdainful of what I’ve done in optics before. Hopefully it will work out.
