Devil and the deep blue sea..

Well the battle of the headhunters has resolved itself. The one I think had the better connections has said they will drop out of promoting me for this position to avoid “confusion”.

That’s sad as they seem to be more likely to get me in. I’m still not sure how a company that sent in my resume a week before the other has been told they didn’t get there first. But, not much I can do about it.

The better connected guy (who has friends in the engineering department of the company) has called his friends to see what they think about me.
“He’s more of a packaging guy, not an optics guy,” is what I’ve been told. “We really want a guy who is primarily optics, so he isn’t really what we want. But, he’s still in the running as we don’t have a good optics choice yet.”

I wish I could say their assessment wasn’t true. But, when I worked for the last laser company we had a guy with his Phd in lasers do the really hard optics stuff. So, they’re right, I didn’t do it there. I did the lower level optics like how to mount the mirrors and the connectors for the fiber optics. But, I didn’t do the wavelength calculations and stuff like that.

So, the odds are I’m not going to get it. That’s sad as it seemed like the place where I had the best shot. And, I’m doubly sad as this headhunter mixup seems to have hurt me even though it wasn’t something I had control over.
But, there will be other places. I have not in any way given up looking, nor am too disheartened by this.
Just annoyed.
