There were all sorts of emergency vehicles about my complex last week. Not sure what’s going on.
Monday there was a fair bit of snow.
My wife tried to surprise me by digging out my car when she did her own. I pretended not to have taken this photo and acted thankfully surprised later.
She certainly did dig through a fair bit of snow.
And, at 3:20 Wednesday, it was nice to be able to just get in the car and go.
The first flight was 100% full
The storm had calmed the atmosphere, so we made good time.
And, got there about dawn.
Chicago looks cold…
The second flight was less crowded…
When I was a kid, my father used to bring me these safety instructions from different planes. I was always excited to get them. Now I think "wait, he stole them…"
It was interesting to see the ground lose its snow as we flew south.
For dinner we went to a place with aged beef. They showed us the aging room.
I know I shouldn’t think "can I have some that hasn’t started to spoil?" as it was quite good. But…
The hotel room was nice enough.
There was only one fight in the alley outside loud enough to wake me.
There was just enough light in the room, I could see this hovering over the bed all night. Didn’t really like that so much.
The area did remind me quite a bit of where my wife and I used to live.
Where we used to live:
There was a good breakfast place across the street.
And, little statues along the street.
The other folks we were meeting there stayed at a condo owned by the company we were visiting. It seems nice enough.
The airport has one of the Wright Brother’s planes. One they actually flew.
"Why is it here?" I asked.
"It’s on loan from the museum," I was told.
"But, the Wright Brothers didn’t live in this state and flew it in yet another state. So, what brings it here?"
"I think it was on a truck."
I did not ask again…
Again, a smaller plane.
The Chicago airport has a dinosaur. I was impress to see it wore its mask.
Long walk between terminals, but some walkways.
Enough Pokestops I went up a level.
For states I’ve visited, I only count places I’ve spent a night. This trip added a state as I had only changed planes in it before. I’ve now been to 35 of the 50 states.
We required de-icing before taking off.
I had a window seat, and love taking photos from the air.
One of ancestral homelands.
Almost home…
Yesterday we had a Phoenix Swords Zoom meeting. We decided not to start practice again until folks get vaccinated against Covid.
This is my knee 2 1/2 days after I fell on it getting off of the airplane.
Apparently my wife’s tailgate did not close last night and was open all night.
It doesn’t look like anyone took anything, which is nice.
I figure it went like this:
"Dude, this car’s open! Help yourself!"
"Are those spears in there?"
"Yeah… they are…"
"Who leaves a car open with spears pointing out at you?"
"I think it’s a trap."
"Thank you Admiral Ackbar…"
"Are you going to try it?"
"No! Touch it and the spear will probably shoot out and we’ll be on the internet for being pranked."
I closed it and went off on the errands that were needed before the snow arrives.
Then, the snow arrived.
