Welcome to spring

Mar 20, 2020 10:11

I associate spring with allergies and being sick.
Yes, it’s nice to get warmer weather. But, this winter was the warmest I can ever remember. So, at least at the start it isn’t a big change.
I do miss the leaves on the trees and will be happy when those show up again. But, they’re more than a month away at this point.

I am back in the office today. I have committed to two days a week and this is one of them. My boss said he’d known I’d be here today because on the schedule I didn’t write Friday, but wrote “Frank” at the top.
Of course, he’s decided to work from home today.
Can’t say I really mind.

One of the systems guys is in today, but not the newly promoted managers. (Some day I won’t be bitter anymore. Today is not that day…)
The software manager who was just made a director is still sick. Yesterday he did manager to get a Corvid-19 test. It will take 5-7 days to get the answer.
It’s been 8 days since I last saw him face to face.
I’m not showing much in the way of symptoms.
I do still have a bit of a cough, but do all spring normally.

I’m going to cancel sword fighting practice this week again.
Not only because groups are bad, but our bank manager and X-Ray tech both come under the “highly likely to have been exposed” category.
I’m sad doing that, but it is for the best.

One restaurant not too far from where I live got busted for being open for people to eat in when they’re only supposed to do take away.
The thing I don’t understand is the place is on a street with a massive police presence. 2/3 of every speeding ticket I’ve ever had is on that road.
(Notice I’m not saying the biggest donut shop in Worcester is diagonally across the street from the place busted.)
With police there all the time, didn’t they think they’d see folks eating there?

Long, long ago (40 years now) I worked in a supermarket near where I grew up. I put people’s groceries in bags and then carried them to their cars.
My friend John and I were the ones they called when weather was bad as we each lived within a short walk of the store.
I remember working there in blizzards when John, myself, one cashier and a manager were the only ones there.
We’d get one or two customers an hour as the snow piled up outside.
I remember talking about people who would risk their lives to get a loaf of bread.
I remember the blizzard of 78 when everything shut down for 2 weeks and it seemed like forever.
42 years ago, I can still remember how clear the air smelled with 2 weeks of no cars.
