Eclipse Adventures part eight

Aug 24, 2017 21:19

We had already checked out of the hotel before the eclipse started. So, as soon as light started coming down again, we got in the car and got out of town.

I know, I know, we could have watched the moon uncover the sun. But, once totality was over, people started coming off the hills and began to clog the roads. We wanted to avoid that.

The light was still strange when we reached the highway and reached the speed limit.

As we drove south east the light began to come back.

We saw lots of places where people had pulled off closer to the center of the eclipse.

I had thought about those spots too, but couldn’t be sure there was actually a place we could stop there.

We did drive by the places that had been #1 on my list. There were lots of cars and folks getting back on the highway there. I think we did well in Baker City.

Still, not too much traffic.

About the place where I had been planning on watching the eclipse just 10 days before, we ran into big traffic and the interstate came to a stop.

But, it got going again soon enough. Only at 1/4 the listed speed limit, but I had left plenty of time.
We soon reached Idaho.

I guess this is bad traffic for Idaho.

We got to the Boise airport with hours to spare for our flight.

I did some Pokebattles and such. (I actually had done a raid as the eclipse started, but didn’t win anything special…)

Sadly, our flight was late. Very late. And, getting later.

Apparently the airline (Delta) had a computer outage and the computer that allows them to file flight plans for the FAA was down. They could do it manually, but the forms were kept on the same server.
Delta has a habit of doing things like to this me every decade or so, then I avoid them for a long time. When I give them another try, it happens again.

Anyhow, we were still there when everything else in the airport shut down.

At least they put out snacks for us.

But, only about 4 hours late, we got on the plane and took off.

We got back to Seattle with an hour to spare. We had been going to dock at a different terminal, but at the last minute they parked us only 4 gates from our flight to Boston.

We hung around the Seattle airport for an hour, the got on the plane to Boston.

Soon we were on the way home.

And, only hours later, we were in Boston.

Then, we retrieved the car and were warmly received by our normal traffic.

Once we got out of downtown it was much better.

After a short nap at home we went off to our favorite restaurant. We do that after all our major trips and always makes us feel like we’re home.
