Last sword practice for a bit

Jul 30, 2017 20:45

Despite still being a bit tired from NYC yesterday, today we went off to sword practice:

It was 17 years ago today that I joined a sword performance group for the first time. I had done things on stage as an actor. I had been in the SCA for a while. I’d done many sword fights with friends.
But, this was the start of what came to be Phoenix Swords and our doing these shows.
So, I couldn’t skip sword practice on the anniversary of that.

The family that has been doing our shows with us the last couple of years is trying to get more people involved. They brought a young woman with them today who might think of joining. But, she "doesn’t like those sword things".
She wanted to play with the whip…

Ian was doing it with two whips in one hand and one in the other.

Interesting cracks off that.

As it was our last sword practice for the summer, we played some games for skill and perception.

Then, on to some fire.

As I took video of Ian and his staff last time (https://fbhjr.dreamwidth.org/1155324.html ) I concentrated on stills of him this time.

He did his regular staff too.

We don’t have any shows for at least 6 weeks, so we’re saving the money and not renting the practice space in August. If we do in September will depend on if we get more shows in September and October.
I guess we’ll see.
