Visiting the Museum of Fine Arts

Jun 04, 2017 07:31

The weather forecast for Saturday was rain for most of the day. So, my wife and I thought we’d go into Boston and go to the MFA.
But, when we woke up, the weather was nice.

We decided to continue with the plan anyhow.

We did stop at the Swiss Baker just outside of Boston that has good pastry. You can see that my wife really appreciated that…

Then, on to the museum.

I like the idea of them putting chairs for folks out on the lawn.

Our main stop was the special exhibit.

I like this one. Not just because the Archangel is using my favorite kind of sword.

I always find it interesting to see the clothes folks were painted as wearing. No matter when the subject was set, the folks tend to be in contemporary clothes. So, renaissance Italy, there were folks dressed like this around?

I found the 3D death mask very interesting. It looked more life like than others I’ve seen.

He did a whole lot of religious art.

I thought this was interesting as it was a fresco. Those usually don’t travel.

As would be expected as I studied engineering and my wife studied art, I got through it faster…

There were no benches. Very sad.

It was interesting as there was a woman with a service dog there. She kept walking up in such a way that the dog was right behind me. It would give a little whine that I took as "I can’t see what she’s looking at" so, I’d move. This happened at a fair number of the paintings.
My wife said the dog seemed very friendly to me when we saw them in other parts of the museum…

My wife wanted to see the Georgia O’Keeffe paintings on the 3rd floor of the American wing. Well, I’m going for 10,000 steps a day.

They are good.

They also have "modern" religious art.

I find the term "modern art" strange as all art was modern when it was made. I know, I know, it is a style thing. But, 200 years from now what are they going to call it? 20th century modern?

Still, some interesting things.

This is of a place near where we live.

I do like that the new wing has secret corridors.

And, you get a nice view of the city from them.

They did have some chairs that you couldn’t sit in. Sad.

I thought these were cool.

I also thought this was very interesting. The artist had been asked to do a bust of Martin Luther King jr for the capitol in Washington DC. He did a lot of concept drawings. I like the differences between the drawings of the same subject.

I thought this gallery was very interesting.

I’m not sure of the I beam with a shoe on each end as a representation of the human body, but I’m not saying it isn’t either…

The anodized titanium snake necklace was very interesting.

The jewelry exhibit had a whole snake theme going on.

By the time we left the clouds had arrived and the rain soon after.

At my wife’s suggestion, we stopped at our favorite Indian restaurant for lunch. She was very happy to eat there…

Then, off again home.
