Six months and 59 videos later...

While America waits for the election results (and while I sweat out 30 lbs in anxiety), I will launch into a highly scientific analysis: I present the leading men of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.

George Wickham
"Hot swim team coach" sounded better on paper than in reality. Although the Wickhams on film (1995 and 2005, specifically) aren't exactly that impressive, either, something about this version struck me as too...fratty. Lizzie suffers no fools (or think she doesn't), but his abs aside, the banter between them fell flat for me. You can do much better for a wrong choice, Lizzie!

Bing Lee
This must be a first in the long history of Pride and Prejudice adaptations, but the best friend, aka Bingley, is outdoing Darcy. And by outdoing, I really mean: Yowza! He's so charming and is even more so when he's around Jane. Those two actors really have chemistry. Give him more screen time! Moaar!

William Darcy
I can't believe it either, but after 59 videos--that's 6 months and lots of minutes of my waking hours--we finally see William Darcy. Maybe I'm a bit like Lizzie in rushing to conclusions, but he...has a long way to go before winning me over. For one, he's wearing suspenders. And a shirt practically buttoned up to his Adam's apple. Did I mention he's wearing suspenders? I realize Darcy is supposed to come across as stiff and curmudgeonly, but at least the Colin Firth and Matthew MacFayden Darcys had eyes that smoldered. I watched the latest video, where he presents Lizzie with his famous letter, and his quiet earnestness is slightly endearing but man, this Darcy may need more than a dip in the pond to loosen him up.
