Wait till I try parking

Today I drove for at least 15 minutes!  That's way up from my meager five minutes from last week.  Over the holidays I sat down in the driver's seat for the very first time (my cousin in Seattle let me test out her car in a parking lot), but now my Mom is letting me practice in the family minivan--something my Dad never would have done.  It's kind of funny too, because the first time I sat in the car it was in the cemetery, right in front of his plot, so I silently prayed he wasn't too mad up there.  But I gotta do what I gotta do.  This time around, I found a small park facing Flushing Bay with an empty parking lot, so I was just driving around and around, practicing my left and right turns, remembering to signal, etc.  I'm not so scared of the gas pedal any more, which is a plus.  But now I have to work on making not-so-horribly wide turns, especially on my right side.  It just feels so hard to judge!  My plan is to keep on getting comfortable with driving until I can sign up (cough--afford--cough) for driver's ed lessons in early spring.  And I also don't want to learn in inclement winter weather.

As for other exciting things in my not-too-exciting life, did you know the amazing wonder that is Netflix?  Then why have you never shared this with me!?  I signed up last week, looking for ways not to spend $25 per movie outing, and holy moly!  Now I can catch up on all the TV I keep meaning to catch up on (hello Buffy and True Blood!).  Or start series I've always missed (e.g., is Battlestar Galactica worth it?).  Or--and this is my favorite part--watch movies online!  I wholeheartedly welcome any suggestions to my Netflix queue--although I am shamelessly biased towards movies made in the late 20th/early 21st century.  Unless it's Casablanca, I really have to be hard-pressed to watch the classics.
