Meet Felix

My family has a pet!  Sorta.

We park our van in a garage downstairs, and after parking I heard meowing noises coming from a pile of crates that were shoved against the wall.  When I approached, a black cat with a white nose and paws sat up and looked at me, appearing quite thin and starved-looking.

That’s when I realized it must’ve been trapped by the new garage door installed.  Our garage door had been open for weeks since it was broken, and the cat must have naturally moved in.  Now it can’t come and go as it pleases-which is alarming because I’m pretty sure it’s a female with newborn kittens.  One cat alone couldn’t have made that much noise.

So the first day I brought water and meaty leftovers, and when my grandpa heard, he even went out to the grocery and bought cans of cat food.   (My grandma quipped that that’s funny because he usually won’t even get food for his own family.)  I think other tenants must have noticed too, because the next day there was a basket with a blanket and more water set out for it.  Last night, it went pretty close to me when I opened a can of food and approached its little habitat.

I hope it figures out the door opens frequently, with cars coming in and out.  Cats are smart, right?  For now I’ll keep an eye on it.  Although it’s a female, I’ve given it the uber-creative name of Felix, because it’s strikingly similar to the cartoon character.
