Ahh caffeine overload

I have such trouble adjusting back to my normal sleep cycle after a longish vacation.  I stayed up until practically 3am last night, tossing and turning, and so of course when my alarm went off at 7:30, I didn’t hear it.  Well, I heard it only to shut it off, and the last thought on my mind was “Get up-get up-get…”  I ran out of the house in a little over thirty minutes, which is kind of a miracle given how slowly I usually move.

But in my tired haze last night, I was kept up by the thought that I should order more periodicals.  Or at least one.  Otherwise, I’d be more up to date with Lindsay Lohan’s latest shenanigans than with the state of Gaza right now.  Before I went to college I used to order National Geographic, but then college students are practically nomads, with constantly changing addresses, so I discontinued it.  My sister gets People and Entertainment Weekly, and we get our local newspaper, but I feel like I need something more substantive, like either Time or Newsweek.  I can read The New York Times at work, and I was toying with the idea of ordering just the Weekend edition, but I have a feeling I’d just be buried in newspapers.  I’m still rather traditional in my reading habits, I guess.  I skim the online edition, but there’s something about articles posted online that makes you want to skim and jump to the next interesting link.  At least with the paper version, I feel more compelled to finish.

For fun, I’d order Budget Travel or National Geographic Traveler (just because I don't have the money or time to go anywhere doesn't mean I can't look at pretty pictures!), but that’s just splurging and I can't.

What magazines or periodicals do you like to have?

P.S.  Link spam of the day:  What if certain Harry Potter characters (from the Marauder era) had LJs?  The entries for Snape and Voldemort cracked me up.

humor, life after college?
