Musical goings on...

Sep 28, 2010 16:24

I've run out of steam a bit with the 30 days thing - I might have a look at the list and see if there are any that inspire me.

The last couple of days have had fun music related stuff in them. On Sunday I went to the filming of a Scissor Sisters TV special called 'One Night Stand'. Essentially it was a concert in a studio - there weren't too many re-shoots (four songs I think) but there was quite a bit of standing around beforehand and doing 'here are the excited fans' shots along with a bit of a meet and greet (I got to shake Babydaddy's hand!). I was fortunate enough to have got 'priority' entry - which meant we were let in before the general audience so we managed to snag a pretty good spot at the front on stage left (which is where Babydaddy always stands). The experience itself was like being at a very intimate gig. The whole shooting was about an one hour forty-five, there were a few breaks for costume changes. The only times it felt a bit strange were when they were re-shooting audience reaction by showing us some of the footage we'd just shot and asking us to do all the dancing and singing again. The bits that felt like doing a TV show reminded me of something like Top of the Pops. The set was great and while shorter than the concert I went to earlier in the year it still felt like a great performance.

The set list (as I remember)

Fire With Fire
Laura (yes I did scream like a girl at the line 'You can tell Babydaddy...)
Any Which Way (Ana had an amusing story about 'the other network' (BBC I guess) had a problem with the line in the monologue 'In front of my parents, take me anywhere')
Take Your Mama
Mary
Lights
Skin Tight
Invisible Light (There was talk of a special guest and I wondered if it would be Kylie, then when they started playing this it suddenly occurred to me that Serena might do the voiceover - the screams when he walked out were awesome!)
I Don't Feel Like Dancin'

At the end Jake and Ana went to the front of the stage and shook hands with the audience (so I shook hands with 3/4 of Scissor Sisters!) and Ana in particular was very lovely and chatty (she had a gorgeous ring that was made out of lots of little links and could be squished into different shapes). Babydaddy and Del were a bit shyer and didn't hang around when the performance had finished sadly.

So - Sunday was a great day, but means I was a bit of a zombie on Monday (I didn't get in until 2am). This was perhaps a little unfortunate as I was scheduled to appear on Steve Lamacq's 6 Music show in the 'Good Day, Bad Day' slot. In the end it went great. I don't think it was quite as much fun as when I was on with Lauren Laverne, it was a bit more structured so I didn't have the opportunity to ramble the same and I only got to choose one song, but it was still enjoyable and when I listened to it last night I was pleased with how I came across.

For those that are interested here's the MP3 of my second 15 minutes (or there abouts) of radio fame!
